The National Commercial Bank (NBC) has donated 920 bags of cement (equivalent to 46 tonnes) worth shs 21 million for the construction of two dormitories at Kiriba Secondary School located in Musoma District Council in Mara Region along with support. of 100 desks in Libobe and Advertising Secondary Schools in Mtwara Region as part of the bank's initiative in supporting the efforts of the government and the people in improving education in the country.
Speaking at the handover ceremonies held over the weekend at the schools, NBC Musoma Branch Manager Sophia Lyimo and NBC Mtwara Branch Manager Editha Mwakatobe said the donations were aimed at supporting the ongoing efforts. and government as well as citizens in the areas concerned by improving education infrastructure.
“The 920 bags of cement we are handing over today are to support the construction of two dormitories for girls and boys at Kiriba Secondary School. Citizens and the government have successfully built dormitories and we have seen to it that we support them by providing them with concrete so that they can achieve this important initiative which aims to help students who study here not to travel long distances to pursue education,'' said Ms Lyimo.
He commended the government for providing 60 million shs to facilitate the construction of classrooms at the school.
Speaking at a similar ceremony to hand over 50 desks for Libobe Secondary School in Mtwara District, NBC Bank Mtwara Branch Manager Ms Editha Mwakatobe said the donation was part of the bank's 100 desk support for the Secondary School as well. and Advertising Secondary School located in the district as well, with the same goal of ensuring that they support the government and the people in improving the educational environment in the country.
"Our goal is to ensure that these children's educational dreams are realized and also to support our President Mama Samia Suluhu Hassani in providing quality education. So we are handing over these desks and chairs for these students as it is a pleasure for NBC to see children overcome the various challenges they face especially in terms of education” said Ms Mwakatobe.
Speaking immediately after receiving the support of chairs and desks for Lipobe Secondary School, Mtwara District Commissioner Dunstan Kyobya thanked the bank for its support and said the government was committed to ending academic challenges in collaboration with various stakeholders including the bank. citing the school which is in the process of constructing two classrooms and a teachers' office with funding of shs 40 mil provided by the government.
"This support has come at the right time because the need is 72 chairs and tables for students who will start classes early next year… we are very grateful to NBC bank for supporting us after submitting our application and they did not hesitate to help us. This is just the beginning because next week NBC Bank will again provide us with such support for Secondary Advertising,'' he thanked.
Mr Kyobya further asked the bank to look into the possibility of opening a branch or agency service in the area to support access to financial services for those citizens who despite earning a lot of money through cashew farming have still been facing financial shortages.
