Dar es Salaam, June 9th, 2025: Superbrands, the world’s largest independent arbiter of branding, hosted an intimate yet impactful event on 9th June in Dar es Salaam, celebrating 13 leading Tanzanian brands that have earned the prestigious Superbrands status for 2025. Attended by key members of the press and Directors from the honored brands, the event marked a milestone in Tanzania’s branding landscape.
Each awarded brand underwent a rigorous selection process involving consumer voting by Tanzanians from all over the country. Superbrands recognition is awarded only to those that demonstrate exceptional scores in brand quality, reliability, and distinction. These parameters are used by Superbrands globally.
Superbrands partnered with IPSOS Tanzania for this research, an international research firm they have partnered with in several other regions. Participants for this research were scientifically sampled to ensure a representative mix of age, gender, location, and socio-economic status, with a specific focus on the urban population. Just over 1100 brands across 67 distinct categories were shortlisted.
IPSOS Regional Director of Behavior Change and Growth - PA, the company that conducted the research, Doreen Bangapi, she said the goal of recognizing these institutions is to increase the efficiency of fulfilling their responsibilities and to have their value recognized in the country.
“Today we are here to name the top 10 Institutions that have been granted Super Brand status due to their performance during the year 2024-25,” said Doreen.
The following Tanzanian brands Abood Bus, ASAS, Azam, GSM, Kilimanjaro Water, NIC, Petrogroup, Red Gold, Super Doll, Tanfoam Tanzania, The Guardian, ITV and Whitedent have been awarded Superbrands Status for the year 2024 to 2025.
"What's different this year is that Tanzanian Premier League football clubs were included in the process, with Simba Club taking first place among football teams in Tanzania and second among all institutions, while Yanga team took second place among football clubs and third among all institutions in the country, with Colgate taking first place." Said Doreen.
Earlier, Superbrand East Africa CEO, Jawad Jaffer, said that for the Institute to have a chance to be included and become a Superbrand, it is necessary to ensure that it meets the criteria of quality, reliable and differentiated products above all.
"If you can ensure that your product has sustainable quality, is appreciated by consumers and is distinctive in the market, we as Superbrand will certainly invite you to participate in the process of becoming a Superbrand in the country and even worldwide," said Jawad.
The survey is conducted annually by various institutions in the country with the aim of encouraging effective work to bring about positive results, by interviewing users of the companies' products at the family and individual levels, where online users are also involved in finding winners.
As more brands are identified to have scored exceptionally well in the consumer research, Superbrands will be continuing to recognize more top Tanzanian brands as the strongest in the region.
